Bibliophile Services

I offer my services as an editor for hire. My background includes a Bachelor's in Education plus a Master's in Library Science. I have taught school for 5 years and am currently a Reference Librarian. I have knowledge of a wide range of idiomatic phrases, word usages, and spelling.

Stylistic Editing. Clarifying meaning, eliminating jargon, polishing language, and other non-mechanical line-by-line editing. Does not include the following unless specified:
• checking or correcting reading level
• creating or recasting tables or figures

Copy Editing. Editing for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation, and other mechanics of style; checking for consistency of mechanics and for internal consistency of facts; inserting head levels and approximate placement of art; editing tables, figures, and lists; notifying Designer of any unusual production requirements. Does not include the following unless specified:
• providing or editing art manuscript
• providing or changing system of citations
• editing index
• writing or editing captions or credit lines
• writing running heads
• obtaining or listing permissions needed
• providing front matter (prelims), cover copy, or CIP data
• editing preface or foreword
• negotiating changes with Author
• seeking approvals from clients’ representatives
Notes: The agreement should specify whether changes are to be made to hard copy, to the electronic manuscript, or to both.
“Copy editing” is often loosely used to include stylistic and even structural editing, fact checking, and mark-up. It is not so used in this agreement. These other tasks must be specified.

When I serve as your editor, confidentiality is very important to me. I will not leak any details of your book. I do retain the right to blog about my editorial experience but I will not review a book that I have edited. It would be too difficult to maintain an unbiased opinion of a book that I have been involved with creating even in such a limited capacity.

I can accept Microsoft Word , Pages, or Open Office files. My rate is $2 per page. A page is defined as 250 words. I use the word count feature of the word processing program to arrive at the total count. Then I divide it by 250 to calculate the final number of pages.

I also offer the option of a single read through. This is often chosen when a book has already been published but did not go through an editorial process. The pricing scale is determined by length.
  • 0 - 50K words = $50
  • 51 - 75K words = $75
  • 76 - 100K words = $100
  • 101 -150K words  = $150
If a manuscript is longer than above, please email to discuss pricing. I can be contacted through this blog or by sending an email to bibliophile@lifeisbetterwithbooks.com
