I'm sorry to have to break this to you but........... the world is doomed.
Something catastrophic is going to happen any day now.
I know this for one simple reason.
My life is going really, really well right now. That is obviously a sign of the coming apocalypse.
About 6 years ago, I took a teaching job while I went to grad school for my MLS. I wanted to get certified as a School Librarian and this state requires two years of teaching experience first. So I figured I'd teach while I worked toward a library degree. After my two years were up, I had my MLS and certification except there were no school library jobs to be had. So, of course, I kept my teaching job. There were times I truly loved it. There were also times I wanted to tear my hair out by the roots. (Ask any teacher, they'll say the same.) But no matter what grade or subject I taught, I had the biggest class library and I'd sneak in some DEAR (drop everything and read) time whenever I could.
Still though, whenever I and my class visited the library I'd always look around wistfully. (And check out books for myself. :)
Fast forward to now: I am no longer in the classroom.
Reason: I am starting a new job this week.
That's right folks, I am now officially a librarian. I am going to be a full time librarian in a local public library.
I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.
But wait! There's more!!!
I also have a part-time job through the holidays. Where you might ask?
Oh, just this store you may have heard of........ Barnes & Noble.
Again, so excited. I started yesterday and I've already broken in my employee discount. At the end of the night, everyone goes around and straightens all the books and reshelves books that are out of place.
Problem: I saw at least 15 books I wanted.
Giddy moment: I spotted one book in particular. I actually already have a copy of this book. But this book is special. You may know that I am an independent editor. Well, my very first client has done pretty good for herself.
I mean seriously, a book that I edited, in an actual, honest-to-God bookstore.
You have no idea. The bookish glee is just too much to be contained.
So anyway, that is why the world is going to come to an end.
Sorry about that.
