A geeky teacher teaches geeky grammar

Okay, this is a really bad picture because I took it with my phone. We're working on combining subjects in sentences. When we first started identifying the two main parts of a sentence (subjects and predicates) I used the example sentence: The Doctor time travels.

Then I said, "If the subject of a sentence is the part that tells 'who' then tell me the subject of this sentence."

One of my students answered, "The Doctor."

Then I said, "Doctor Who?" and laughed for about the next 5 minutes straight. Seriously, at one point I was sitting on the floor laughing because I think I'm so hilarious.

(BTW, they know it's a tv show because I told them. And explained how very geeky I was because I think it's awesome.)

So now that we're combining subjects, I explained that the Doctor always has a friend traveling with him.

The important part is though, that they remember which part is the subject (the WHO) and which part is the predicate (the WHAT) because I sat on the floor laughing when we began.

Score one for the geeks.Pin It
